The new model of the 3DS isn't out in North America until 2015 as far as I've heard. This is simply a XL with a Smash Bros skin. I used to have a regular sized model but upgraded because I find the XL more comfortable.

The demo is out today but I haven't downloaded it yet.

It looks pretty awesome! I have the regular 3DS and think the XL might be a good upgrade.

I am going to download it and likely play the hell out of it all afternoon!

I had to make a new profile since I didn't bother transferring my old (hadn't bought anything on the eshop) and I'm now charging my system but when it's finished, I'll go check my friend code and so we can link up. If by battle you also mean pokemon then I'm game, although I haven't started up my Y in a while and I'm a bit rusty, lol.

I've been playing Nintendo handhelds since the I got an original Gameboy back in 1992 (which I still have and it still works!). I still have all my old Nintendo consoles as well. Maybe I'll plug in my Super Nintendo in later and play some Mega Man.

I've had the regular 3Ds since a few months after launch, when they did the price drop. I just got the XL model because I find it more comfortable and when I saw there was a Super Smash Bros edition, I couldn't pass it up! I'm getting Smash for the 3Ds but I also plan on getting the Wii U later this year so I can play splitscreen with my friends and family.

I hope the new 3DS has a tighter hinge. The ones in the current XLs are flimsy. They feel cheap, despite this thing not being it.

I'm getting it on 3DS too, but I think it really shines in a living room environment with all 4 people in the same room. You can do that with a 3DS provided you have 4 nerd friends who all own both a 3DS and the game, but that's rare for me. The WiiU version requires less hardware so I can rope people in easier.

I find the hinge on this XL tighter than my old 3DS but I see what you mean.

It's strangely inconsistent. They're loose for a reason. It's so that the hinges doesn't snap, but it sounds like such a lazy fix.

I'm lucky in regards to the whole nerd friends (and family!) lol. Plenty of people in my university play 3DS and all my cousins are getting Smash for it as well so I'll have plenty of people to play against.

I'm still waiting for the inevitable Super Smash Bros Wii U bundle.

A quick google search showed that GameStop and Amazon still have it so I suppose the purple 3DS is still being produced.

It's not available online as new, though, last I checked. I think I might keep the purple one and buy a SE 3DS outright.
